Say hello to Hermes

I was happy to be a beta knitter for the new Woolly Wormhead Hat collection. The Perceptions Hats are all stranded colourwork (hello, my fave), and each has a beautiful crown.

I mean – look at them!

I choose Number Three, which turned out to be Hermes: “the Greek god of travel who bridged the worlds of the mortal and the divine. The colourwork strands of Hermes appear fluid, a transmission of stitches from brim to crown.”

When I first saw the pattern, I didn’t think of Greek gods – I thought of Op Art.

I was getting major Bridget Riley vibes, so decided to lean into it, and knit up my Hat in black and white.

What do you think? The likeness is astounding, no?

You can read all the technical details in my Ravelry project, but for now, let’s just look at photos.

Come for a walk down to the river side.

Here I’m trying not to laugh because just out of shot there are young Influencers taking photos of each other – less knitwear, but the exact same idea.

I don’t think you can see where I messed up and pulled back a bunch of times. That’s on me – I should’ve printed the pattern and crossed off lines as I went.

And of course, this Hat is all about the crown:
