Might Be Macrame Crochet Plant Hanger – My First Published Pattern!

I'm so excited to share my first published pattern: Might Be Macrame Crochet Plant Hangers in Crochet Now Magazine Issue 28. The team at Crochet Now were so lovely to work with, and I feel honoured to be included in such a fantastic mag. After all, Crochet Now is the UK's number magazine for crochet patterns! It's packed with patterns and inspiration. Here are some of my favourite projects which I can't wait to try... The Jupiter Footstool by Claire Gelder This project is worked with a 60mm crochet hook - you read that right! It's about the biggest hook…

A sweet and cabled blue baby aran sweater

Baby Aran Sweater

When my niece was little (well, littler), my sister dressed her in a sweet baby Aran sweater. It was densely cabled and handknit by some “local knitting ladies” for the charity shop. At village fetes they had a stall, piled sky-high with sweaters and booties in pastel acrylic. “Those local knitting ladies are my rivals,” I said. “Don’t be silly,” said my sister, buying another sweater. I could never hope to march the output of an entire squad of retirees, but instead decided my niece should have a new sweater annually. In merino, preferably. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bg0iT5LDE4m/?taken-by=amiguru.me Now I have a new…

Granny Hexagon Crochet Blanket in progress

The Big Ugly: My Granny Hexagon Crochet Blanket

I last updated you on my granny hexagon crochet blanket (AKA The Big Ugly) almost two years ago. Since then, I've been chipping away at it... slowly. It sits on the end of our bed, and adds a lot of warmth, despite being unfinished. (I'm never going to iron our duvet cover - you'll just have to excuse the wrinkles.) How unfinished? Well, not only have I not woven in all the ends, I haven't attached all the crochet hexagons. Heck, I haven't even crocheted all the crocheted hexagons.   See that big gap? Yeah, I need to add some…

Evil Eye Gloves for March for our Lives

Evil Eye Gloves for March for our Lives

I knit a pair of Evil Eye Gloves for the March for our Lives, because how inspiring are these young people? Like the Pussy Hat, Evil Eye Gloves are a form of protest. And, they're from the creator of the Pussy Hat too. As Krista Suh says on her website: The evil eye symbology goes way back. The Evil Eye is an act of protection. But it is not just defensive, it is also an act of aggression – of willful gazing, of not turning away. Individually, to show the eye on the palm, you can put out your hand in a…

A Vintage Knitted Turban Pattern (For When You’ve Knitted Every Hat)

A Vintage Knitted Turban Pattern (For When You’ve Knitted Every Hat)

Why a knitted turban? Well, there comes a time in every knitters life, where one has simply knitted every beanie. Cables, colourwork, a decorative brim… check, check, check. But when is a beanie not a beanie? When it’s a turban, of course. This knitted turban pattern was originally published in the 1940s, and seriously, how […]
